Guide Pricing

What an item really brings in

Asking prices say nothing. Sold items say everything.

Information, not advice. This is general information, not tax or legal advice and no substitute for it. Figures, thresholds and deadlines change with every tax law — check them for your year or ask someone who is licensed. Wherever money or liability is involved, the text says so.

The most common mistake in pricing: looking at what others **ask**. That is the wrong number. What matters is what was actually **paid**.

How to get to the right number

  1. Search for the piece — brand, type, similar condition.
  2. Filter for sold items where the platform offers that.
  3. Look at ten to fifteen comparable sales.
  4. Take the median, not the average: a single outlier upwards shifts the average, not the median.

What is left of the price

Between the price in the listing and what arrives lie several items. Work them through once for a typical piece, then you know your number:

ItemExample
Selling price€25.00
− platform feedepending on the platform
− the share of shipping you bear€0–5
− packaging€0.30–1.00
− purchase€3.00
= your gross marginthe only number that counts

Negotiate

Set the price so that there is around 10 to 15 % room for negotiation, and expect it to be used. Anyone who prices tightly and then gives way works for nothing. Declining an offer is allowed and does no harm.
