Guide Getting started
The first thirty pieces
Where to start when there is nothing yet but the idea.
Almost every start fails at the same point: too much at once. A business registered, €400 of stock bought, a photo studio ordered — and then thirty pieces lie in the living room, none of them online.
The other way round works better: sell first, then build. The first pieces come from your own wardrobe. They cost nothing, and if they don’t sell, you have lost nothing but time.
What you really need in the first weeks
- A window with daylight and a smooth, light surface.
- A tape measure.
- A phone with a clean lens.
- A kitchen scale — the parcel size depends on the weight.
- A place where the pieces can lie flat.
That’s it. Ring light, mannequin, label printer and storage shelf are purchases for the point at which they save an hour a day — not for the start.
Thirty pieces are the first honest number
Below thirty pieces sold there is nothing to read. One sale is luck, five are chance. Only from about thirty do you see which brands sell for you, which sizes sit and how long a piece takes on average.
The order that has proven itself
- Photograph and list ten pieces from your own stock.
- Sell, pack, ship — walk the whole path once.
- Only then buy stock — and buy what has sold.
- At about thirty pieces: work out what is left over.
- By then at the latest, settle the question of business registration (see the section on it — it can be required much earlier).
